Another Question... Water Dragon Housing
So, sorry for the thousand questions everyone, but I just started working at a petstore, Petsmart actualy, and along with a few problems im alreay fighting there, there are more I want to keep from even having, so over the next few weeks im sure you'll all probaly see quite a few posts about different animals we have at work. Thank you and please bear with me.
if any of you are familiar with Petco you may know what kind of rack system we have for the reptiles, The rack system in place has one double high cage on top, with 3 levels of standard cages below it, all of these can be divided up with 3 or 4 spots for dividers. We currently have two Chinese Water Dragons in the store, they are in one of the lower cages, they have very little room to climb verticaly. but alot of room horizontaly, whileas we have about 4-5 ball pythons in the double high on top, with one third of it closed off for another animal, a Chameleon. Im thinking about seeing if they will let me switch the two, so the WDs have more vertical space, while the Pythons have more space horizontaly. Whats everyone's opinion as far as space goes, is it better to give the WDs more vertical space, sacrificing quite a bit of floor space or more keep them where they have the floor space, keep in mind that if they get the taller tank they will have 1/3rd less ground space. I have not owned any WDs, so im curious what those who have/do think. thanks.

Re: Another Question... Water Dragon Housing
I think they should have as much surface area as possible. If you can fit branches and climbing places in the longer tank I would stick with that. Don't sacrifice space for a water dragon. I haven't seen a pet store with anything other that baby's so I hope it isn't too bad. Watch for snout rubbing and make sure the water area is big enough for him to fit his entire body length and at LEAST 3/4 of his body height.

Re: Another Question... Water Dragon Housing
Just cause I notice crazy stuff and it tends to drive me crazy... Is it Petco or PetSmart? cause you listed both in your post above?
like Gewanchuk said, if you can give them things to climb on probably better to keep them low. that way you defiantly have room for enough water and land for them. Usually the water is the reason they are found on the bottom, cause it adds a lot of weight to the rack system and is more stable on the bottom.

Re: Another Question... Water Dragon Housing
I plan on adding a bigger water bowl, its not quite up to par as is, but as for which petstore it is a Petco, i always mix them up, eve when im in, someone will be looking for a specific item and if we dont have it in ill be like "You could check Petco".. Its funny cause it usualy confuses everyone, like for a second they think there in petsmart.

Re: Another Question... Water Dragon Housing
yeah, ideally id like to give them the entire upper enclosure, but im not going to move the chameleon that takes up one third of the space (come to think though they may divide into 4 cages, in which case it would be 1/4th) I guess ill just try to get the cage there in as good as possible for them.
Im sure i'll be asking about another animal when im all done with the frogs, Boa, and Water Dragons enclosures.
