getting worried

ok I thought my wd was improving but from some others I have talked to this may not be the case and im starting to feel uneasy about his health.

he doesnt seem to be eating like I thought he was so I purchased reptile jump start its a supplement and an appetite starter suppose to help make them hungry I guess. and I was also told he looked dehydrated and to try giving him pedialite. I cant find a vet that will see him until next week.any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Re: getting worried

do you have good uvb lighting? they need that to break down calcium. make sure you have a fluorescent light less than 6 months old. After 6 months they continue to produce light, but not uvb.

Re: getting worried

Have you been leaving him alone while he adjusts? I think a big part of it may be that he is still nervous around you. Some animals need more adjustment time to new surroundings than others.

Go ahead and make that appointment with the vet. In the meantime, take a hands off approach to his care. Offer him food, and make sure his cage is clean and he has fresh water. (If you can, consider a small pump for his pool. This will keep the water moving and simulate his natural environment a little better. It may encourage him to swim and drink more.) But don't try to hold him a lot, and try to stay away from him as much as you can.

Don't try to force feed him or force liquids into him. This could just make things worse. Take him to the vet and let the vet make that call. He or she will show you the right way to force feed if necessary, and will tell you what to give him.

If he is losing weight rapidly, or otherwise looks like he might be sick enough to die before the vet's appointment, there should be an emergency facility you can take him to in the area. You may be able to get the number and address from the vet you have an appointment with.

whoa. NO MIXING SPECIES. end of story. Its not healthy for either occupant. You need a new space for that frog. 85 is TOO HOT for a green tree frog.

He definitely should not be in the same enclosure as a tree frog. There is the very real possibility that the frog could have given him a disease that the frog itself is immune to. Aside from that, they have different care requirements, and once the dragon gets big enough, he could eat the frog.

You need to get him his own enclosure with a proper set up for the dragon himself.

He does look very thin. Like I said, stop handling him for awhile unless absolutely necessary. When feeding him, put him in a second tank or even in one of those little critter cages. Put a few crickets and/or mealworms in there with him and leave them alone. (count them first) Give him 20 minutes or so to eat what he will. Left on his own, he may go ahead and eat. If so, you will be able to count exactly how much he has eaten. If not, you will know for sure.
