Re: one eye doesnt open

Here's a few questions for you:
  • What is your UVB source?
  • Is it spiral, compact, or merc vapor?
  • How far away is it from the basking area?
  • How long has it been like this?
  • Is there anything in the enclosure it could have scratched an eye on?

There has been problems with some of the compact UVBs so these questions will help determine if there might be a problem with those. Here are some links to help you find a vet near you:

Re: one eye doesnt open

Is he scared of you possibly? 1 of my dragons would only open one eye when I first got him and Im guessing its because he was scared/stressed...is his left eye the one facing you when you look at him or facing away from you?

Re: one eye doesnt open

It could very well be the compact UVB light. It has been know to cause problems like the closing of eyes. The compact gives off very intense UVB at close range. Take a look at this: UV Lighting for Reptiles: A new problem with high UVB output fluorescent compact lamps and tubes?

Re: one eye doesnt open

Thank you DP! This is where I was going with that. Remove the UVB for a few days and see if this makes a difference. It won't hurt him to be without it for this trial period. If it is that lamp - then all you need to do is junk it and replace it with a brand that doesn't do this. Read the article and see if your bulb is listed. Even if it's not - it's a good idea to perform the test anyway. That way at least you will know what it's not that's causing the problem.
