Re: my water dragon doesnt seem to be eating

Can you give us specs of his enclosure? The temp of his warm/cool side, what are you using for substrate? Is he in a high traffic area? It is normal for them not to eat for a few days while they adjust. Are you handeling him alot? Ivve kept 3 WDs and all of them took a little time to settle in. Aslo- what types of food are you offering him?

Re: my water dragon doesnt seem to be eating

Your enclosure is going to be too small - your WD will eventually grow between 2 to 3 feet itself (maybe longer) head to tail and it definitely needs more height for climbing. Mine are in temporary enclosures right now (still quite large) while I build their new enclosures and these will be huge - 6 ft long 5 ft high & 2 1/2 wide (this changes according to my husbands specifications as we are building and whatever mood he is in... LOL) but it will be about the size of an entertainment unit when we are done with all the WDs needs included. I will let the rest of the crew respond with more information - I have 2 adult females but am by all means not a PRO. :0)

Re: my water dragon doesnt seem to be eating

Odd behavior and not feeding following a move to a new locaton is not unusual. I would leave him/her alone for a week to settle in before anymore handling.
What type of thermometer are you using. If it is the stick on tape type, they are notoriously inaccurate.
Are you talking about the coiled UVB bulbs?

Re: my water dragon doesnt seem to be eating

I also agree that's not necessarily unusual behavior. They get stressed out very easily and yours is probably frightened and wary that you'll eat him. Give him some time. Put him in a quiet place in the house where there isn't a lot of traffic and avoid handling him for a little while.

A note of caution - it sounds like you bought him from a pet store. Often the care given at pet stores is minimal or wrong and the animal you end up with is sick. (Speaking from experience, here. I had that happen with an iguana who ended up needing surgery two months after I got him.) While you're giving him time to adjust, be sure to offer him food. If he doesn't start eating within a week or so, or he seems to be losing weight, get him to a vet. Actually, it's a good idea to take any new pet to the vet when you first get them to make sure they are healthy.

Your water dragon will need a new, larger cage very quickly. With proper care, he will grow very quickly. It's a good idea to start on the cage now and have it ready for him soon.

Here's a caresheet that will really help in getting the cage size, temperatures and humidity correct: http://reptileguides.herpcenter.com/...-t25.html?t=25

Re: my water dragon doesnt seem to be eating

Those bulbs are virtually worthless in your case.
They were designed around small lizards with low UVB requirements.
Unless your dragon is sitting about 3 inches from the bulb, it is doing nothing but lighting the cage.
