Emmie - Stressed & Snout Rubbing
My husband called me at work to tell me that Emmie was bleeding pretty badly from her mouth - so, I rushed home to take care of her. She was bleeding from a spot on her chin and inside her mouth as well. She opened her mouth for me a few times but I did not see anything bleeding other than her lip and chin (bleeding has stopped now). Anyhow, when I got Zoey - she was already scarring over from her snout damage and so, I have not really experienced it before with Emmie (other than a little at the tip). Could this be stress induced by her recent egg laying? I think she is done - she has layed 13 so far total. She constantly wants me to hold her - the minute I put her back in her enclosure, she runs straight for me and if I don't pick her up - she rubs her snout. She has never rubbed enough to cause such bleeding before. HELP?

Re: Emmie - Stressed & Snout Rubbing
I have an iguana in here that used to do that really horrible,, enough to where he is permanetly disfigured, when I got him in his nostrils were swollen almost completely shut, I became a glorified nosepicker with the vets help I ended up building him a large enclosure that keeps him amused, so he is not always trying to rub anymore.
You can also block the glass so he doesnt see out or himself.
What size cage is she in?

Re: Emmie - Stressed & Snout Rubbing
Water dragons are unfortunately known for rubbing their snouts raw on glass. They don't understand it. If she is in a glass tank, a good temporary solution may be to cover the glass as much as possible with something she will recognize as a barrier. If she is in too small of an enclosure, it could make the problem worse. Does she have room to climb? Does she have a hide and lots of water?
The more comfortable she is in her enclosure, the less likely it is that she will try to get out - but really any exposed glass poses this problem.

Re: Emmie - Stressed & Snout Rubbing
She is currently in the largest size mesh reptarium available - it is about 5 feet high I believe and about 3 feet on all sides. There is no glass and she has lots of vines, etc. to climb on, water to soak, lights to bask and a laybox. This is only temporary as I am currently building a very large enclosure that will house her - and another for Zoey too. They will have everything that is needed to keep them healthy and happy. Emmie really wasn't much of a snout rubber until this whole egg laying thing - its her first time and she appears to be annoyed with it. She is increasingly wanting my attention or to be held constantly. Even when I rub her head - she opens her eyes and stares up at me, like "hello, what's up with that - keep rubbing my head". She is almost like a child - she is worse than my children really. In fact, they are jealous of the attention she is getting. :0)

Re: Emmie - Stressed & Snout Rubbing
Hmmm... How's the humidity and temperature? My first thought was that she might be a little dried out - but when you said she craves attention from you, maybe she is a little cold. Your warm hands may be just what she's looking for.
It may just be stress, but if the problem persists, I'd say definitely get her to a vet. There may be something else contributing to it that needs to be taken care of.

Re: Emmie - Stressed & Snout Rubbing
Cover the contain. When I got my WD I was stuck with the same temporary enclosure situation. I wrapped my cage around with a dark sheet so the lizard wouldn't rub his snout and it worked great.
