How many eggs the 1st clutch?
Okay, Emmie is on day #4 of her egg laying and in these 4 days - she has layed only 5 eggs total. Her belly is still swollen. She seems to be doing well, eating, etc. and I am giving her extra calcium - I'd imagine the swollen belly is a bit much. My question - if this is her first ever clutch (eggs not fertilized) - how long should this go on and how many eggs should she lay (or DROP while hanging on her vine)? Please advise. Thanks.

Re: How many eggs the 1st clutch?
Boy after reading all your posts about being egg bound I am definately sending my husband to get a box with organic soil TODAY. That does sound horrible to be egg bound. I've had Lucy for a year in Sept. She was in such bad shape when I rescued her that I've never seen the need (she was hybernating) but now shes so healthy. Thanks for posting about this.
I wish I could answer your questions but I will be awaiting answers also! |

Re: How many eggs the 1st clutch?
Emmie has had seven (7) eggs so far and belly is still round. She is eating, drinking water and sort of lying around. She wants held constantly and I think she is mad at me right now because I'm trying not to hold her too much (cause of her belly). The organic soil did not go over very well with Emmie - so, I had to purchase a bag of primo sand from Home Depot. I know that sounds weird but my reptile guy told me that it should do the trick... just have to keep it moist. It seems that she enjoys using this as a litter box but hey, the sand clumps like cat litter. No worries there. She is sort of laying the eggs anywhere she pleases - I am finding them in the nooks and crannies. She had one in the lay box but I think this was quite by accident and not deliberate on her part. She is such a character. Gees.

Re: How many eggs the 1st clutch?
My iguanas first season was like that. An egg here and egg there, we found them all over the place. When she finally laid the entire clutch was about 3 weeks after the first egg appeared.
You should contact your vet to be ready in case there turns out to be a problem. Egg binding/retention can be fatal if left unchecked.

Re: How many eggs the 1st clutch?
Thanks for sharing on your iguana experience - I don't know where I got the idea that it all ocurred at one time on the same day. LOL. She and I are learning together I guess. Funny thing happened today - as far as I know Zoey is a female too but she is younger than Emmie. Anyhow - Emmie had this weird behavior about her today towards Zoey almost like she thought Zoey was a male and Emmie wanted to mate? Does that make sense - do females give males signs? She never did that before.

Females can exhibit male like behavior but it has to do with dominance not breeding.

Re: How many eggs the 1st clutch?
Week #2 and egg count at #9 today. Her belly is still HUGE. I wonder how many more she has in there - geez. She seems to be doing well but I remember what it was like to be pregnant and I'm sure she is just as miserable. A co-worker of mine is having a baby at the end of the month and her and Emmie seem to have the same case of the "blahs" going on. LOL.
