Wierd Question

Hello, Im new to the forms and new to owning a water dragon. I have had mine whos name is Amico for about a month.

My question is my water dragon loves to dig! but never when I am home only when my girlfreind is at home. she says when I leave he turns into a brat when I leave. He jumps around digs splashes and run around like a goof.

Any reasons or is he just moody?

Re: Wied Question

Are you sure its a male. Females also dig, could it be gravid and digging to lay?

Re: Wierd Question

Hum... Question... At about what age do they start laying unfertilized eggs? Mine has had an odd digging issue since the day I brought him home... Mines about 6 mos old...

Re: Wierd Question

Is your WD digging/burrowing in a substrate or does the digging resemble more of a scratching at the side of the enclosure (like when the dog wants let outside)? Mine did that too until I got a larger enclosure - if the enclosure is too small they will dig (maybe feeling boxed in). Just a thought. Mine now scratch only when they see me and want me to hold them (usually when I come home from work). It drove me nuts before though.

Re: Wierd Question

Mine digs random holes... Doesnt really scratch the side of the cage, Just digs up his plants, he does dig out his hide area... digs around his pool... (he could be a she).. But he is only 6 inches snout to vent... and hes got a 55 gal aquarium at the moment... Seems to me its alot of space for such a little guy...

Re: Wierd Question

Deffinatly be careful and get him to a larger enclosure if he's digging at the side of the cage. I've seen pictures of water dragons who have actually busted open their mouth and got mouth rot from digging so much. but congrats on the new baby .
