Re: Name that beetle!!!
Yes. I feed them to my bearded dragons when I have a surplus in my meal worm breeding colony.
And they REALLY crunch!

Hah. My wife freaks out when she finds one in the house that escaped. I've got some big ones now that are about 1 1/2" long.

Re: Name that beetle!!!
I personaly would not use a cicada. There is a bit of confusion over this. What is referred to when talking feeders and the term locust is used it is referring to a grasshopper type of insect. In my opinion cicadas are much to tough.

Re: Name that beetle!!!
My WDs loves cicadas - and I read that they are a good treat on occassion for your WDs. The research I have done indicates no problems with digestion. I know what you are talking about - yes, these are not locusts but often called this. They are actually related to kadidads (spelling?). Also, my WDs love the beetles (escaped worms). They usually nest under the water tub and when they emerge from their slumber - the WDs get truly excited. I would not worry about the whole skeleton thing - I mean if a WD can digest a mouse or a baby chick... a cicada should be no problem at all.
