My WDs love locusts and cicadas but I cannot find these anywhere online to purchase. Do you know where I can purchase these - for a special treat for my ladies. Sometimes they get bored with their crickets and superworms (excited when the supers turn into beetles). They will not eat rosies or goldfish. I'm not even considering pinky mice - my kids would never forgive me. Thanks!

I doubt that you will find any suppliers of locusts and cicadas. Their lengthy life cycle would not be financially feasable to culture. Also with the thickness of the exoskeleton of cicadas I would be hesitant to feed them to a lizard.

And just a point.
The "locusts" you read about feeding to reptiles are not the insect that we call locusts in this country but a type of grasshopper. They are the insect referred to in "plagues of locusts". They appear to be readily available in Europe as feeders.

Ewe - I saw that roaches were a live feeder too. I don't know that I can go there. I realize that the reference to locusts is actually the grasshopper, however, people seem to understand me more when I refer to a locust. Who would get a grasshopper and a cricket confused right - you think? Yes, it happens. I catch grasshoppers and cicadas when I can here but they are not plentiful where I am here in Phoenix. Seemingly abundant in the UK. I read that cicadas are actually a healthy treat. My WDs get one ever so often and love them. Also, the pupa before it emerges as an adult - enjoy those little guys too. My WDs especially love the beetles that the superworms hatch into - maybe it is the something out of the ordinary that they enjoy so much. Not so with fish - won't even try those.

roaches are really no different than crickets. just a bug in a rubbermaid container.
