humidity probs

i started a thread not too long ago about the issues I am having with keeping the humidity at the proper levels

the humidity will sit at 50-60 all day long so I have to keep misting the tank repeatedly........

i was told that the stick on hydrometer I was using was useless but since that I have tried 2 different ones and they are giving me the same reading!!!!!

i attribute the lack of humidity to living on the sixth floor of an apartment building(that all I can think of) because with the amount of water I have in the tank it should be very humid!!!!!

sooooooooo I am looking into getting a mister for the enclosure

i was wondering what some good brands(and models if possible) would be good to use for my enclosure in hopes it will fix my problem!!!!!!!

i was also wondering if there are any downfalls to adding a mister to my enclosure and if it is suitable for WDS

thanks

mike

Re: humidity probs

what does the top of the enclosure look like again? Can you remind us? is it all mesh?

if you really do want a mister, try this site. Lots of people use them for their poison dart frogs. Gets pricey though.

Re: humidity probs

haha, thanks Mike, that's the site I meant to post! forgot that part.

but really, with all the water you have in your tank you should not be having humidity problems. Have you tried an air rock/bubbler for the water? how much of your top is enclosed and how much is open?

Re: humidity probs

Tis true. With water and heat in the enclosure. The humidity must be escaping. It doesn't take much. Even a small space between the doors would do it.

Re: humidity probs

Yes it's very customable, and yes our dollar is awesome right now. I built my own mister and you can't really do it any cheaper than that system. The mesh you have would be the culprit. If you want to maintain 70 percent humidity you can't have hardly any mesh. Especially on the top. That's the worst place for losing humidity. Even with a mister running you won't maintain 70 percent. It will escape through the top.

ok 2 problems. your humidity is going right out the top through that mesh. thats why you can't keep it up. Cover at least half the top with plexiglass and see what happens to the humidity.

Are your lights over the fine mesh or going through glass? If so your critter is getting ZERO uvb light.
