WD eating things from the ground
we just recently got a little water dragon, his appetite only just stared goin up to 6 crickets approx a day, still not eenough but now he'll only eat a few if any whenwe put them in, now when hes out of his tank he's started to lick everything, the carpet the couch. then today I noticed a little hair stickin out only to find when I took it out it was a full length hair, is this something to worry about? any way to try get him to hunt the food when it goes in?

Re: WD eating things from the ground
Have you tried offering him different food? I have a couple of baby water dragons and one will only eat 1-2 crickets a day but if I offer mealworms she'll eat tons. The other one prefers crickets and will only eat a few mealworms. They both love waxworms (of course, they're loaded with fat). I've yet to try phoenix worms which I hear are quite nutritious.

I suppose another question to ask is does the he have a large pool of water to soak/drink and is it changed everyday. He may be licking to get moisture.

Re: WD eating things from the ground
hey guys, thanks for the feedback so far, he has two water dishes, one deep n smaller but he often climbs into it so I think its big enough, the second is shallower but larger and hes often in this. originally he preferef meal worms but we were informed these arent as nutritious as they contain alot of phosporous so we tried switching back to crickets he seemed to be eating quite a few but not so many now, he is starting to shed though.
this morning he was out for about ten minutes and when I turned around to answer the phone he used the opportunity to eat a piece of paper, i ran over to try get it but he swallowed it all. really worried he'll make himself ill as we constantly monitor his temps and humidity, hes our first one too |
