Re: how to hand feed dragon
How long have you had your dragon? I would suggest using feeding tweezers first then progress into hand feeding. What types of food are you offering him when youre hand feeding? If you have not had your WD for atleast a month I dont reccomend hand feeding, at this point you just want him to get on a regular feeding schedule. Hand feeding might scare him...

Re: how to hand feed dragon
Hey there this is my first post here but I have had my WD for a few months now and he is in a 7' long by 2' front to back and 4' tall viv and I hand feed him regularly because I found out the hard way not to leave super worms in the tank alive because they eat a lot of wood and fast. I just hold the worm or cricket or whatever you are feeding him/her infront of their face where they can see it and if they are hungry they will take it.

Re: how to hand feed dragon
Hand feeding *sorry for the play on words* goes hand in hand with taming. Caution should always be taken , but if the dragon trusts you I would suggest the tweezers. For my ig. i wouldn't hand feed him unless I have a piece of lettuce big enough for him to take a bite off of. Once I was feeding him a Dandelion and he got spooked and nipped my finger. It was not intentional but I just want to stress that it can be dangerous

Re: how to hand feed dragon
before I started hand feeding my wd seemed to get used to my hand from me herding the crickets to him and keeping them from running too far away
then I picked him up to hold him for a bit before putting him back in his house (he eats outside of it) and offered him a superworm in my other hand open flat (apparently the first he's ever had) he chomped at it like it was a cricket at first then was like ooooooo that tastes good the next day I offered him a cricket by holding it by one of the back legs so it can still wiggle and since then hes never had a problem eating outa my hand now if I could just figure out how to get him to get some greens any tips |

Re: how to hand feed dragon
It's really easy to get a water dragon to hand feed. Just be careful, because once he gets into the habit, he won't want to go back to hunting his own crickets. Trust me.
![]() Be patient. Start with holding him a little each day without food, until he's comfortable with you. Then around feeding time, pick him up and hold some food out to him. He'll eat it once he trusts you. If he's really young, though, watch out for your fingers. He may nip them in his eagerness to get to the food. Dark-Side, it's probably not a good thing to feed him bugs out of your yard, but Praying Mantises are pretty easily available. You can order them online to put in your garden, I think. According to Snopes.com (I love that site), the Praying Mantis fines seem to be a myth, so you probably don't have to worry about that. Urban Legends Reference Pages: Killing Praying Mantis Illegal I don't know how they'd do as a staple food for Water Dragons, but they'd probably be a good treat.
