many questions
Okay, last week I got a 20 gallon tank for my wd. I think its happy. However. I notice that my wd digs in a certain part of the tank. Everyday after work I would see one part lower. And I noticed it was more moist there. I dunno. Has this happened to anyone else?
Also in the old tank I would find little insects jumping around. At first I though they were fleas or something from another animal. But, then I got a closer look and they looked like baby crickets. When I got my wd the new tank I put new eco earth stuff in the tank and everything. Then a couple days later I noticed them in the new tank. They look like baby crickets to me. Any feedback? Sometimes when I hold my wd on my finger in his tank he will let me sometimes other times he tries to crawl up my hand and desperately escape the tank. I just put him down and close the lid and he tries to crawl up the wall and get out. That scare me sometimes. Can anyone help me on that.. Thanks Any feedback is greatly appreciated. |

Thats why it is always suggested that you offer the absolute largest enclosure you can to your captive pets. |

Re: many questions
If you don't have a dish of water that's big enough for him to at least soak in, that may be what he's looking for. Water Dragons love water and need a lot of humidity. If he's small enough to fit in a twenty gallon tank, you probably will just need a large bowl for him to be happy.
He won't stay small for long, though, so you may want to start planning for a much larger tank. When you do, think about the moisture you'll need and the Water Dragon's pool first, then build around that. It really helps.

Re: many questions
Thanks a lot guys. So are the baby crickets in the enclosure good or bad?
I do have a water dish for my dragon. Big enough. I leave to work at 6:30 in the morning and leave the daylight bulb on and don't get home till 5 in the afternoon, so I'm not able to mist it when I'm at work. So before I leave I mist and pour some water where my wd digs. Just in case he gets to hot. I'm building a larger enclosure for my withd out of an old dresser. I think it should be big enough. It's very large. Thanks guys for the feedback. also .. another question can wd get second hand smoke..? |

Re: many questions
Does the water dragon have something to hide in? Your tank should be cooler on one side, with a hide of some sort so that if he wants to, he can get out of the heat.
A dresser sounds like a good size. Definitely post some pictures. We'd love to see it when you're finished. Almost any animal can be affected by toxins in the air - which is what second hand smoke is. I don't know that I've heard a lot of awful stories about smoke killing dragons, but it's probably not good for them. If you're a heavy smoker and are concerned, consider moving the water dragon to a room that's designated no smoking, and/or getting an air filter. This will cut down on the amount of smoke your pet inhales, which can only be good for him.

Re: many questions
And if there is a concern about the tank getting too hot while you are away a good thermostat would be a wise investment.

Re: many questions
I'm with Merlin on that one. Big apple herp sells a pretty good/cheap thermostat for about 33 dollars. (BAH 1000). If the temperature of the room fluctuates alot i'd say a thermostat is a must.
