Help! Is my WD sick?
This morning when I went to feed my WD, he leaned his head down toward his plate and a large amount of "drool" came out of his mouth - it's watery but thick and goopy and colorless. It seems to be a couple of tablespoons worth. I've never seen this before. Could he be sick?
Thanks!
Aileen

Re: Help! Is my WD sick?
Sounds like it could be the start of Stomitis - Mouthrot. Here is Tricias link with infomation regarding it.
I would get a vet check.
ULCERATIVE STOMATITIS (Mouthrot) IN REPTILES (Lizard, Snake, Turtle, Tortoise )

oh Aileen! I hope he makes it. Call your vet and see if there is a reptile vet in the area. I need to find one just in case for the froggies too.

Re: Help! Is my WD sick?
I agree, that sounds a lot like mouth rot. Get him to a vet, but don't panic. If that is what it is, you're catching it early, which means that with some medicine he should be just fine.

Aww, geez. I'm gonna have to hunt for a vet then. He's never been to one and the only time my first lizard went to the vet was when we had to put him down. :'-(

Re: Help! Is my WD sick?
Not to sound preachy, (because I seem to be saying this a lot lately) but vet visits are extremely important. Reptiles tend not to show that they're ill until it's very serious. Some things you can catch pretty early if you're observant, but a lot of things go unnoticed until it's too late to save. Reptiles really should be taken to a herp vet (not a cat and dog vet that is willing to see a reptile) for a wellness visit at least once or twice a year.
My water dragon, Kono, always seemed healthy and vibrant, and then mysteriously just died one night. Sometimes these things still catch you, but regular vet visits help prevent that.
Just a suggestion. It really sucks to go through things like that.

I know, I know... I just have an aversion to the health profession in general for any species. I don't like to go to the doctor myself unless I think I'm dying. And after a few bad experiences with different vets (and a complete raping of my wallet from our most recent dog vet), I start drooling and shaking as bad as my beagle when I think about having to take an animal to the vet.
The only exception is my son, who gets rushed to the doctor for every bump or fever.

Re: Help! Is my WD sick?
Like was said before!!! Don't panic. Three days after we got our four year old WD, Duke, he did the same thing. I did rush him to the vet and nothing was wrong. The vet who is a qualified Herp vet thoroughly looked at his mouth and all over. That was the first time he had been to a vet before. He is happy and healthy, but the vet visit did set my mind at ease and I quit rushing in the room every five minutes and poking him to make sure he still moved I hope everything goes well.
