WD Mate?

Hey Guys,

I have got a chinese water dragon it seems to be a she. I have had her since she was 8 month old and now she is 1 year and 3 months.

I am finishing up an enclosure and planning on getting her a mate. Preferably a male.

Can I get someone yonger than her? if no Can I get 2 more dragons?

Any replies are welcome.

Re: WD Mate?

To be on the safe side, I would stick with something close to her size and make sure she is infact a female. 2 males will fight. 3 would be the max number to keep in the size of enclosure your building.
You will also need to quarantine the new dragon for a month or so before putting in to the new habitat.

Re: WD Mate?

Ooooooooh, yes it is...I guess I saw some different measurements. My bad.

If you get ones that are different size, the bigger will be dominent and maybe bully the smaller ones, not letting them eat and maybe try to fight as well.

Re: WD Mate?

Hmm... i see....
1. How many dragons can I get for this enclosure?
2. What happens if The one I have is indeed a feemale and I cat a few small ones ? There is a lot of space in the enclosure... if you take a look at it there are a lot of hiding spaces?
3. Another scenario what If I get a male of the same size and they make babies ?

Re: WD Mate?

This is from Tricias site....

Water dragons need height, since they are climbers, but they also need length! Provide branches to climb on (soak in weak bleach solution to kill parasites first, rinse well, and let dry), plants, basking areas, hiding areas, and ideally if you can make at least 1/3 of the ground area water.

Water Dragons need a space at least 2 x their total length therefore you will need to provide an enclosure that is a min. of 6 ft long (side to side), 2-3 feet deep and 4-6 feet high to do it right. Green and Australian can be kept together, with one to three males in a room-sized enclosure. Some females can be domineering and may not want any other females around ... others can cohabit with 3-4 females. You must monitor to assure ALL are feeding and basking properly. If any aren't, you are likely seeing the results of intimidation, and will need to increase the number of basking and feeding areas and/or increase enclosure size, or separate them.
