Australian Water Dragon

This is what our member has to say: I'm getting some Aussies in about 2 weeks. Anyone out there who has some and would like to share their experiences with me?...

I'm jealous! If I were to ever get a water dragon, it would definately be an Australian. As Lacey pointed out, there's a shortage of AWD keepers here. You might be the first for all I know!

Well, I'll keep looking. I'll come across someone, some where, in my search, and hopefully bring that person here to share our experiences.

Australian Water Dragon

I had one back in the 80's while I was living in Australia. I can't imagine how they are transporting those over here unless they are captive bread. They are fast runners and love to be in and around water constantly.

They will run on their hind legs if given the room. I would just say read all you can about them before getting them.

Sorry for the delay in answering. Agama International (Bert Langerwerf) has Aussie dragons for sale. After Aug 15th they are $50 each, $120 for 3. He has a care sheet on his website. He says he is sold out by November.

I had to put off my purchase. I wasn't able to get more info on them and wanted to know more before bringing them home. So, I'll pay the higher price but it's worth it. I've been hunting down all the info I can get on the internet.

You are not allowed to export animals from Aus at all anymore, even if the animals are CB.

Good luck with the Assie/s they are great lizards, our friends had some once and I loved them.....make sure you post pics when you get them

Hi Joe,
Agama International, owned and run by Bert Langerwerf, is in Alabama. He has been breeding Aussies since 1994 (I think, the date is on his web site). He breeds several different lizards, and has quite a set-up. He has some great pics on his site. But, you're right. You have to have a special permit to export from Aus.

After I get my boa's enclosure built, I'll be building two more for the dragons and buying them, if Bert still has them available. He promised to save me 3.

Agama International and Mr Langerwerf are both well known and respected names in the herp community.

Unless things have changed recently Australia prohibits any export of their native wildlife, regardless of what paperwork you may have.
All available herps native to Australia are either captive bred or have been smuggled.
