EXCELLENT UVB source and all I will use on my high-level UVB users. Eventually I will get the "low kit" for the low-level users.
A couple of tips for making sure your bulb stays functioning well...and justifying the cost....
If you use a fixture with an on/off switch...tape the button to the "on" position. Using the fixture will significantly cut the life of the bulb sometimes rendering the UVB non-existent immediately. Instead - use a timer at the outlet.
If you need to move the bulb for any reason more than just moving it with the cage lid, turn it off (unplugging the ballast)and wait 30 minutes for it to cool down...then you can move it safely. It's a fragile bulb when hot.
You MUST have the ballast to run this bulb! It is not the same as the heat/UV combo many are used to. The bulb will still light, but the UVB portion will be damaged beyond use.
The initial cost seems high, but if you do a breakdown of the lighting options than you will spend about the same. Example: Using two 4' linear tubes changing them out every 6 months as suggested, the cost is very comparable.
This is an excellent UVB source and I cannot tell you how many animals have thrived under these lamps using this kit.
