Sexing uros

Does anyone know how to sex mali uromastyx? I have only seen one picture out of three books I have read, but the picture along with it's description was not helpful. If I look at it like a Bearded Dragon, it looks like a boy. I have no clue if that is right or not. the coloring is still juvenile like. I don't believe that males get their coloring until after a year. My uro is about 8-9 months.

We had this same question not that long ago and the most simple way is their coloration. As before here are some pics showing the difference. First is a male. Second is a female. Third is both together with the male on the left.

I found this on a couple different sites,,hope it helps

The presence of large femoral pores with waxy protuberance and hemipene bulges can often distinguish males, however this is not obvious on all species. Males tend to have broader heads but this is often subtle or misleading. Uromastyx ornatus are the easiest to sex due to enlarged femoral pores on the males and adult males are more colorful than females. Uromastyx acanthinurus can be extremely difficult to sex. Probing does not work with Uromastyx acanthinurus and may not be a useful tool for the genus.

You Mali may be a little young to tell yet.Their coloring sometimes doesn't change until after a year old.

Well they sure don't make it easy do they? Our little one is approx 8 months old. The tail looks to have hemipene bulging. There are pores with a brownish center starting above the vent opening and cascading out towards the knees. What I have read says that females have preanal pores, males have femoral pores. So which is which when they present like mine does?? I would love to get another one, but do not want to make the mistake of getting two males. Arrghhh

pre anal pored would be on the underside just above the vent, femoral pores would be on the bottom sides of the legs...
