Mali Aggression?
I've managed to talk my dad into letting me get a 60 gallon tank so I'm going to keep the uro! I'm glad, cuz I've grown attatched to him. I do have a couple of questions about him tho. What does it mean when he inflates while i'm carrying him? The other is are they ever aggressive when they are juveniles? I'm getting a little skittish when i'm about to pick him up to let him out of his cage cuz I can't read him like I want to yet. I'm trying to get him used to me by spending time outside of his cage and letting the both of us look and study each other. I also keep my hand inside his tank for a minute or two so he can get used to it and used to being touched. After doing this for the past couple of days I can now stroke his back once or twice without him freaking out on me. What I would eventually like to be able to do is to pick him up with him sitting still and not freaking out or running away. Him doing that not only scares him but me too. Any advice or words of comfort ya'll can give me would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

i've never had a uro bite me aggresively, only when he didnt relize where his food ended and my finger began. the worst I get is when I pick up one thats not used to people they usually swing their heads and tails around and the tail can really hurt.
if he's aggresive he may hiss at you or he's do an S sort of movment wiggling his body. I've had my mali since he was small and he's very socialized but uromastyx are not calm animals when you take hime out he'll rather explore than sit still in your hand. good luck with him.

Yup, i agree with Jade, i have never had a mali uro bite me period, just remember, its probably not aggression but that fact that the little guy is scared. Our malis are VERY hiperactive when we first take them out of the tank, and it takes a while to get them calmed down... My wife is acutally better with our uros then me, im the one that takes care of them, yet they like HER more...lol... go figure...

Their temperment can vary from one to another. My oldest male loves to be held but I have to catch the female. She is not aggressive but prefers to be left alone.
