Soy beans are perfectly fine - as is small grain corn - Again I will reiterate with the rest -- greens is a must.

I know the greens spoil fast - but will be best if you get what is suitable for him - give what he needs and eat the rest yourself - to limit wastage - become a vegitarian if you must .

I do not agree about dusting EVERYTHING -- too much is as bad as not enough. The suitable greens are those high in Calcium and low in Phosphates - others should not be given (such as rocket) as the interfere with Ca absorbtion.

In the UK (and i am sure elsewhere) we can get mixed salads - some are suitable - others not
One we have is brand named Flourete - crispy salad - that is suitable - u could try these too, but please check that the 'ingredients' are all suitable - don't use anything containing rocket

In the wild - uros can attain 25 years of age - in captivity this tends be as little as 15 - all due to impropper care - sooo healthy he may appear but i am sure you will be impacting on his longivity if you don't supply a varied diet - filled with suitable veg - along with various seed type stuff.

One excellent thing you can do with your birdseed is to grow them into sprouts - and give that to your uro - the sprouts are far more benificial due to germination than the dry seeds - but he will still need those too.
To germinate the seeds and have a constant supply - have a few small tubs - and each day for a week - start a new one - and rotate - putting a teaspoon of seeds in the tubs and water them - when the seedlings are in inch or two tall - give them to your Uro'
