He maybe to hot as well, you might try dropping the cool side temps to about 85-90. Definitely get rid of the cali sand. Its not only dusty but can clump up when wet and if digested can cause impaction. Does he have hides to get away from the heat?

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
It's a must to be feeding him fresh greens daily. He's drinking because he's dehydrated. Wean him from the bird seed and get him on greens (as per caresheet) Bird seed is fine but not as a staple.

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
also, when you feed him bird seed, make sure not buy the kind with sun flowers in it.
they have a point that makes it hard to digest. |

thank you everyone. i do have the bird seed with sunflower seeds in it. so i will take that out now. what do you think about soy beans or green beans? Our bearded LOVES green beans and corn, but i'm afraid to try with my uro because he is alot smaller. i would chop it up small but im just more afraid when it comes to him. should i also put calci dust on everything? thank you again everyone.

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
Here is the diet section from the caresheet provided earlier.
Not sure about the soy bean but greens are ok. Uromastyx are Omnivorous. The majority of their diet consists of vegetables with the occasional insects as a treat. Vegetables include carrots, beans, peas, corn, mustard greens, bok choy, collard greens, parsnips, squash and dandelion flowers. You can also offer birdseed and finch pellets in to the vegetable mix. Make sure anything picked from a garden or yard is 100% pesticide and herbicide free. Veggies not to feed would be, spinach, beet greens, Swiss chard, cabbage and limit broccoli and kale, these tend to bind important nutrients or tend to induce metabolic problems overtime. Romaine lettuce and regular lettuce provide no nutritional value. Insects include: crickets, mealworms, superworms and waxworms. Insects should be used sparingly because of their kidneys inability to process large amounts of protein. All foods should be dusted with Vitamin D3 and calcium.

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
Seeds should only be a supplement.
Greens should last for at least a week in a refrigerator. When you are buying them, buy small bundles or just a few individual leaves. You can also give him bits of vegetables like squash and make a meal of them yourself. But he should not eat only seed or iguana pellets. Those things can be supplements, but not staples. Even iguana should only have pellets along with their normal, fresh diet. You can use frozen veggies, but he may not eat them, and the freezing process does kill some nutrients, so he'll need fresh food often. If he doesn't eat the greens right away, don't panic. Take the seeds away. After a little while, he will eat the greens. Then you can start giving him a smaller quantity of seeds again. Definitely get rid of the calci-sand. It's the worst possible sand you can use. If you have to use sand, get sifted playsand from a hardware store. You may want to stick with something simpler, like newspaper or paper towel, or you can try soil/clay mixtures as well.

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
he will eat greens, but only if i hand feed him it. if i put in his dish he really can't get it in his mouth. i don't know if i cut it to small but he will give up, but when i reach in to take it out he will follow my hand until i hand feed him again. did i spoil him with hand feeding to much?

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
That doesn't sound right. Is his dish too deep? Try putting them on something flat, like a a section of paper plate and see if he has the same problem. If he does, you should consult your vet.
Mine doesn't like his greens cut too small. He prefers them about the size of his mouth. He doesn't eat much when they are cut too much smaller. Still he has the ability to eat them out of his dish. Don't hand feed for a little while. Take the seeds away and put the cut green in for him. Each day, exchange them for new ones. If it is simply that he's spoiled, he'll eat when he gets hungry. But check him out with a vet first.

Re: Uro Shaking His Head when Eats or Drinks
I would avoid paper. I have heard of animals eating the paper on accident! How about a small salad plate?
