Re: Quick Substrate Question

I've never read any conclusive evidence on tail rot. There is a lot of people saying this and that, but basically it's just passed on info. It is supposed to be caused by overly damp situations that causes moisture to be retained in the tail spikes. This excess moisture causes a bacteria to grow. One of many different types. That's why it is hard to treat it. You need to find out which bacteria it actually is, as a general treatment doesn't work. I don't believe it is very common as most Uro keepers tend to strive for zero percent humidity in their enclosures(not recommended). Most often I believe it is improper sheds that stick and when the skin below can't grow it dies.(the skin tissue that is)
I'd sure like to find some more conclusive evidence on this subject myself.

Re: Quick Substrate Question

tails on uros tend to take a while to shed and if there tail gets wet and water goes under the partially shedding skin and stays under and dosent dry up before night then it can create a tail rot. that is one of the reasons if I ever get my uro wet it is early in the day around 10 am. plenty of time to dry up. Im not saying if I get my uros tail wet that im all freiking out however I just dont like the idea of soaking it. dripping water on it and letting it roll off is fine. just not a full on soak.
