Jumpers???

Well, I got two Uro's yesterday...The cage had no cover, so my husband is going to make one for it.... Anyway.... I was told that they cant climb, or at least dont... so no worries while I wait for a lid, right? WRONG..... I was in the kitchen, looked out to the cage, JUST in time to see one of them stand on its back legs, and JUMP out of the cage! What a little stinker! LITERALLY, one leap, and she was out! I couldnt believe it! And she is STILL trying to climb out all the time! I wasnt goig to wait on the husband, so I made my own cover.... but she is SURE trying to get out! lol Have any of you had this happen??

Re: Jumpers???

I've never heard of a Uro jumping, I know they are strong and can climb (hence needing a cover), but I never thought they would be able to jump out of a cage. They have those kinda stubby dinosaur legs I just never figured they would get that kind of energy.

Re: Jumpers???

Not on the jumping they can use their tail as a third leg to raise themselves about a inch or a bit more, when they're older I'm sure. Ive seen them jump down from objects though and do have the power to get a little frog leap going. They are upper arm strong too and if it got a hold of the edge of the tank it could get up then. Uros are smart and learn different ways to try and escape so if it tried it a million times who knows could be possible.

Re: Jumpers???

I've had mine escape before as well. Literally scaled an electrical cord and scooted out a hole at the top.

Re: Jumpers???

well, she's a smart one, and STILL trying! lol She stands up, jumps, and grabs the top now, and tried to pull herself out.... She managed to do it twice, before I had the cover on. They are smart.....

Re: Jumpers???

Haha, I've never seen a uromastyx jump, but it doesn't surprise me that they're good at it. They have kind of a similar build to bearded dragons, and I've seen those guys jump
