Re: Uro Diet

She actually says that you SHOULD feed mustard and collareds.
Kale on the other hand should definitely only be occasional.

Can anyone make a case for or against collareds and mustard for Uros?

Re: Uro Diet

I can make a case *for* them.

Maize's health has improved considerably since I got him and started feeding him dark leafy greens instead of frozen veggies. Collards and mustards are my main staples, and I mix in varieties of fresh veggies when I have them. He has positively fattened and is calmer. (Although I'm not sure his newfound serenity can actually be attributed to his diet change. )

I'd be a bit concerned if they turned out to be bad for him. He gets a diet similar to my iguana.

Re: Uro Diet

Migh of been in this thread or a care sheet, and it said dont feed cabage, but isnt that a collard green and its a dark leafy green. So what exact vegetables are best, not the catagories but vegatbles themselves to make it easier:

I have tried shreded carrots but havent seen them eaten yet.
Dandalion Plant which both male and female liked.
Dandalion Leaf which both male and female liked.
Lettuce which I have seen the female eat, and I think the male has eaten. But have read conflicting info, saying its ok, and others saying not to feed.
I have a mixture of seeds, and the male loves them, females also likes them alot.

So a list would be great thanks. If some members add a certain vegatable I will update a list to get a long list of good foods.

Carrots
Dandalion Plant
Dandalion Leafs
seeds (mixture)
......

Re: Uro Diet

Cabbage, as a regular feed, is not recommended. The exception is collard greens. It has so much good going for it in the calcium to phosphorous ratio that it makes up for any other problems.
Lettuce, while not exactly harmful, is not useful either. Its basically cellulose and water. In other words it has zero nutritional value. Its a matter of why fill up the lizard with something useless when you could be supplying nourishment.
Your best bet for checking out veggies is to look at diet recommendations for green iguanas and bearded dragons.

Re: Uro Diet

i personally choose not to use mustard greens (uro doesnt like it anyway) and the collard greens im not big on cause it causes gas in humans. or at least most of them and this is proven. so I assume a uro wouldnt like that and the kale as we know is not good for them. that is my reasons.

Re: Uro Diet

snakelover you really need to pay attention to the thread. if you look 6 posts under your original question. you will see my reply as to what he eats. not trying to be rude but dont think I should have to type it all in again.

I'm not quite sure where you got that info but my family eats collards in their salad all the time without effect.
As well as my Bearded Dragons and my big iguana.
Collards and mustard are staples in herbivorous lizard diets as well as those who enjoy a bug or two.

Re: Uro Diet

do a internet search for foods that cause gas and u can see the list for yourself. as I said not all people but most. also I didnt say dont or that it would kill your uro. just said it causes gas in humans so I choose not to feed it to mine or if so that you use it in moderate for a uro. didnt mention Bearded Dragons or iguanas. you can do as you will with your lizards I cant control that.
