Re: Uro Subsrate

well, i'm positive that it's 49" long, and i'm pretty sure it's 13"wide
i do remember that it was pretty narrow though.

Re: Uro Subsrate

to give you an example of tank size, my 75 gallon tank is 48"x18" and 21" tall. my 55 gallon tank is 48"x12" and 21" tall. Chances are its a 55 gallon tank, at 48"x12". Im not positive, but i dont think a 55 has enough floorspace for a adult uro.

Re: Uro Subsrate

If it's well ventilated you won't have a problem with the humidity being too high. The basking lamps will dry out the air.

Re: Uro Subsrate

let me get this straight, it's an adult mali uro. sorry about the confusion! and i just measured it myself and it's 49" long and 14"wide. just measured it. the old owner thought it was 70 gallons, but i don't wanna carve that in stone. does this change the sitch at all? do you think it's really to small? i do plan to "play" with him everyday(supersupervised) to give 'em some exercize. (i just noticed that i've been spelling the word does "dose"! sorry about that!)lol

Re: Uro Subsrate

49"x14" sounds like a either a custom tank, or something i've never heard of. Is that the rim or the glass? Either way, unless the tank's extra tall, i doubt its a 70 gallon tank though. Theres convertors you can use to find the size online, try googling it. How tall is the tank?

Re: Uro Subsrate

when i said play i meant like, letting him walk around it a secure area. is that really bad??? my friend has one and she dose it all the time. did you buy yours from a breeder? most people say if they are raised in captivity they get used to handling and start to enjoy it.

i will have to get back to you guys on the whole tank thing. i do agree that it would be to narrow for an adult. i think i'll just have to talk to the old owners of the tank(i don't have it or my mali yet!)
thanks for all the advise!

just to be sure, you all advise a mix of excavator and play sand for the substrate right?

Re: Uro Subsrate

I use the excavator alone for my desert type lizards, but for a tank this big using play sand underneath would cut some cost. just make sure the excavator is hard so the uro cant get to the sand, or ingest any.

Re: Uro Subsrate

The excavator clay hardens, its not a loose substrate.

His enclosure has changed a bit since i took this. sometimes you get a little bit of loose clay, you can vacuum it out, though its usualy not enough for them to eat when going after crickets, you just have to watch it around the water. I have a thin layer of eco earth on the cool side, around the water dish.
