What have some owners used in their uros tank? Not sure what I would put in his tank besides the baskin rock and hide...Hes pretty big, so maybe some sort of small plant that holds up to his weight?

Because of the width of their body and their short legs. I would go with a wide branch or flat plank. Despite being ground dwellers they do like to climb. Plus if you think of a 2 ft high enclosure. That could hardly be called arboreal. Rock outcroppings in the wild could be 6 foot high and then some.
Having a climbing area pointed at the basking site allows them to reach different temps as well.

They won't climb, so you'll have to provide gradual slopes - like wheelchair ramps - for him if you want something he'll walk up and down. You really don't need a lot, though. One or two hides, a couple of rocks and all. That's really all you need.

You can give him a "sandbox" area, if you want to, just a little closed off space far from his food dish that he can dig in. I did this for a bit with mine and filled it with soil and semi-small rocks. He ended up only using it once or twice, though, and lost all interest, so I took it back out. As long as they have hides, it seems they don't necessarily *need* to dig, which was a bit of a surprise to me.

Any plants and such would actually be more for your taste than his, but it certainly can't hurt - as long as they aren't poisonous. Try fake plants first and see how he reacts.

Have you ever tried to dig in sand? You'll find it pointless pretty quick as well.lol You just have a smart Uro. If you want to provide suitable substrate for digging, you'll need around 8-10" deep of a sand/soil/clay mix.
Also Uros will and do climb. Perhaps you haven't given yours the opportunity. I've had mine escape actually by traversing like I thought only a Chameleon could do. Of course they are limited to what they can reach while standing up.

Hmm... Mine won't climb, at least not more than a little. I've given him all sorts of climbable things, and he'll actually squeeze through spaces to go around them, or avoid them. Maybe mine's just strange.

I think it would definitely be worth redoing (or possibly extending) his cage to include a digging area like the one you've described, and reintroduce more climbable objects. If he's just a strange ornery little guy and wants nothing to do with it, there's really no harm in having tried it.

I've seen pictures of them in the wild where they actually climb bushes to reach the fruit. Not that they should be fed fruit too often. I found that my Mali's were more apt to climb things more than the Nigerians did. Could also be differences in our setups such as different temperature zones that mine want to reach but yours don't need to.

Then again, mine hates fruit (at least all the kinds I've presented him with) and refuses to eat anything if there's fruit in his dish. So he's probably just abnormal.

Here's one of his enclosure as it came to me when I first adopted him:

Note the heat rock (unplugged at the time of the photo), and sand. I've changed a lot in there, the rock has stayed - without its cord - and the sand is gone in favor of paper towels. Most of the furnishings are still there, though.

I'll have to see if I can get new pictures soon.
