Re: Can I have an experts oppinion please..??
not a expert but deffinatly too thin. u shouldnt see the backbone. the tail area looks a bit thin but not badly. Just needs to fatten up a bit. I assume you allready bought it. please dont tell me petsmart. Just make shure your feeding Escarole, Curly endive, Dandalion leaf. You can also find a good bagged spring mix too. some finch bird seed on occasion is ok as well as soaked lentils treats should be Hybiscus leaf or flower, Hollyhock leafs and flowers, rose flowers, Dandalion flower. Fruits however not alot of them are mango, blueberry and butternut or acorn squash. If not eating you can sprinkle some bee pollon on the food to entice to eat. (make shure everything is pesticide free. If you have a organic food store near u I would say start there).

Re: Can I have an experts oppinion please..??
I don't consider myself an experts in Uros by any means. But determining the health of an animal usually has several factors. When you purchased it did they tell you if it was captive bred or wild caught? If wild-caught it should most definitely have a fecal done to check for worms. Is it eating well? Usually it's a good sign if an animal is not eating well that something is wrong. I would say for it's age it doesn't look too bad. They usually are a little thinner when younger. As for male or female it's too young to guess.

Re: Can I have an experts oppinion please..??
I bought it from reptilecity.com....I will never do business with that guy again.
I actually bought 2 but one has a broken tail in 2 places,he said he would replace it if I paid for the shipping, but I told him there`s no way,the only thing I could get him to agree on was sending be a shipping label and giving me a refund on the broken tail one,,very rude and sarcastic..They were shipped here from texas and it took 2 days to get here, and there was a little cold hand warmer in the box for heat......never again!!! |

Re: Can I have an experts oppinion please..??
wow that sucks. well the one your planning on keeping needs some work. i would start with the correct temps and food. I have my basking spot at 125 and ambient air temp about 100-102 the cooler side is 84 and at night anywhere from 72-76. 2 hides one on warm side and one on cooler. can have 3 if u like. use digital thermometers and a ir temp gun. i know a site you can get one for 45.00 if u need the site name let me know. get the fecal test done and let him be untill he is eating and goin bathroom daily.

Im definatly no expert but I have heard that when your Uro needs food or water to keep it to veggies, because protein on an empty stomach could cause problems, again thats just from what I've heard.

Re: Can I have an experts oppinion please..??
In this case, I'd definitely recommend a vet check first off. I always recommend getting any new pet checked out by a vet just to make sure there are no problems, but in this situation, I'd say it's doubly necessary. This little guy does look a little thin, but it could be due to all sorts of things. Taking him to a reptile vet (not a cat/dog vet who will see reptiles) will tell you whether he has just been underfed, or if he has parasites, or is sick in any other way. The vet can also help you get set up, and give you advise on what to feed him while he's recovering.
In your case, considering the condition of the other one, I'd very highly recommend this as a first course of action. I'm sure you've been directed here before, but here's a like to the Uro caresheet as well: Uromastyx Caresheet - Reptile Information - Caresheets Database
