My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
Well i've had my uro for about 3 months now and well....when I first got him he was you know still getting used to his new habitat and stuff. then about a month later he got used to it and he was used to me. He wouldn't run at the first sight of me or anything but lately he's been acting...scared like and every time I come in the room from work or so i'd see him i'd look away and he'd be gone or i'd come in and he'd run to his hide real fast. Is this ok? Also he doesnt seem to be eating as much. Should I interact with him more? I do as often as I can but not too often cause I don't want him to become even more afraid of me when I take him out of his tank. Is it because I recently got him a new hide? Well...two new hides. Perhaps he's to crowded? I will post pics.

He's sleeping its night time. =P http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Housing001.jpg |

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
No he's not too crowded. How old is he? What species of Uro?
You're best to leave him be. Feed him at the same time every day. Let him get used to seeing you come and go without touching him for a while. Then when he doesn't bolt anymore try feeding him by hand to get him to come to you. It's a slow process to get Uros over being skittish but well worth it in the end. It helps if you can get some hibiscus or dandelion flowers they usually can't resist them.

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
well he's a mali and im not too sure of his age but when I got him from the petsmart about 2 and a half months ago he was about....3-4 inches long. He was fairly young I believe now he is about 5 1/2 inches long. And where do you think I should go about getting hibiscus or dandelions. THere's snow on the ground here so I don't think I can get some from outside.

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
you could get hibiscus at a florist, but I think you will have to wait for spring for dandelion flowers.

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
Yeah florist or garden center. Make sure to ask about pesticides on the plants. Even then give them a good rinse off before feeding.
Come springtime you'll be amazed at how crazy they go for the Dandelion flowers. It's like people lining up for those Nintendo Wii's yet again.lol

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
No matter what a florist or greenhouse tells you, go on the assumption that their plants have been chemically treated, if not by them, then by the original growers.
The horticulture industry uses a lot of pesticides and fungicides! If their plants aren't flawless people won't buy them

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
Those salads on that website that you sent are those for like everyday feeding or just every now and then. If so which should I get? I think those would be better than what im feeding him now. Frozen veggies peas, corn, carrots. Thawed of course. But he only eats the peas.

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
Those are much better than what you're getting him now, and fine for daily consumption.
The premium grade salad is probably your best bet, while the veggie medley could be used to supplement. Also, take a look at their ingredient list. Everything in there you can usually get at your local supermarket. I believe someone provided you with a link to the care sheet. Just double check the veggies against the feeding recommendations there. You can buy it pre-cut and mixed from that company, or you can just swing by the store and buy the same ingredients and mix it yourself. Either way, that will be a huge improvement over the fozen veggies. I adopted Maize, my uro, from a family who told me they fed him frozen veggies, and that he loved green beans the most. Do you know he wouldn't eat anything at all for the longest time when I tried to mix these "favorites" in with his greens? It wasn't until (two vet visits later) I had nearly given up and just threw a handful of the iguana's greens in there (no frozen treats anywhere in sight) that he finally started eating again. Then he had a voracious appetite, and I got to know pretty quickly which greens and veggies he liked and which he didn't. It's sad that his old owners had never seen that. He must have been eating only what he absolutely needed out of desperation.

Re: My uro Rasputin is acting funny.
you should be feeding escarole, curley endive, dandalion leaf, bok choy. then as treats carotts, peas, soaked lentils, hybiscus, dandalion flower. the first 3 should be staple diet with a bit of bok choy every other day.
