Questions about Sudanese Uromastyx

I first off ask what are the care requirements that is special to the Sudanese Uromastyx? If it dosen't have any care requirements that is different from the others please specify. I also am confused at what type/brand I am to use for the lighting. Is there a way for sombody to post some links showing what types of lights have worked for them in times past? Another thing I am wondering is that is there a way to place live desert plants in the cage but not have them be eatten or alive? The last thing I ask is about the substrate. I am a bit confused on what to use? Would something like this work? The last thing is please use constructive critsism rather than destructive please. I would also like any Uromastyx issues not brought up by myself to be mentioned please.

Re: Questions about Sudanese Uromastyx

I've never heard of a Sudanese Uromastix, to be honest with you. Do you have a picture you can post of it?

I did a quick web search, and it came up with uromastix acanthinurus as native to Sudan. Does it look like this one: Spiny-tailed Lizard ( Uromastix acanthinurus ) - Spiny-tailed Lizard information - Spiny-tailed Lizard facts - WildAnimalsOnline.com ?

In any case, this caresheet is great: http://reptileguides.herpcenter.com/...-t43.html?t=43
I'd read it over pretty carefully. It will probably answer most of your questions.

Hello,

First and formost, welcome to the HC Network. I personally have no experience with Uros, so I won't be able to offer much in the way of advise on their general care. I will leave that for our Uro keepers.

I do however know a little about the product in which you linked. From the research I have done, and from what I have read from others, it appears it would be suitable for Uros. The catch 22 is that you need to premake the dens in which the animal will be able to reside. Burrowing seems to be labored when the substrate dries as it dries to an almost solid consistency.

I am not certain what types of sites you typically use, but the HC Network would never allow a member to bash or intentionally disrespect you. If someone felt inclined to do so, we would be inclined to remove them.

Once caught, the post would be removed and a new thread started if this were the case.

Re: Questions about Sudanese Uromastyx

I'm not trying to insult your intelligence but I'd first like to determine if the species you have is actually a Sudanese Uro (U.Ocellata) It's just that they are not a very common species in the pet trade. Can you post a few pics of him. One of his back especially. Also where did you buy him and how much did you pay(usually a good determining factor)

Once again thank you for the info. I posted the thing on the constructive/desructive issue because in other forums when asking for info got trolled against. This place dosen't look like the type that would be common place for such events to happen.

That's why I asked for more info. I haven't bought one as of yet.

Re: Questions about Sudanese Uromastyx

From what I know of the Sudan Uro it's requirements are similiar to most Uro species. Amazing that you can get one. I have never seen one for sale. They have remarkable colors as adults, and are supposed to be one of the tamest Uro species. I got to see pics when you're able.

Re: Questions about Sudanese Uromastyx

Hello,

Deer Fern Farms breeds these unique Uros apparently. I did a little research on them and they were the first to pop up.

Here is a link to their Sudanese Breeders: Sudanese Uromastyx (U. ocellata )
