Odd Uro behavior
Hi all...any one have uros what does this..
I have looked and searched and can't find info, but my Uro will get on the edge of his food dishes and will go round in mad circles on the edge of them, like a dog chasing his tail, he doesnt do it anywhere else in his cage just on his dishes, it looks comical, but has me curious? Anyone idea's why he would do this?? |

You have me stumped Donna. lol I don't own Uros, but I haven't heard of that before either. Does the dish have food in it when the Uro acts like this? Is there a nice reflection there from how the lights are setup?

No they are placed over on the cool side, no reflections or anything..and yes food is in the dishes when he does it, I was wondering if he likes the feel on his belly lolim thinking bout setting up my webcam to catch him in the act lol, I have tried to video it but when I go near with my camera he stops, I will catch him one day lol..

Sounds like he has issues Donna
Might need a Uropsychiatrist, lol. I dont think mine ever did that. Try to get that video, it would be great.

Re: Odd Uro behavior
i have no experience whatsoever w/ uros, but....
this sounds familiar from the stables - bored, or stressed, horses will engage in odd behaviors, sometimes obsessively, like stall pacing, wood chewing, cribbing, tail rubbing. some of the behaviors become self-mutilating or self destructive. is it possible your uro is bored, stressed, or lonely?? I really don't know, just that the behavior sounds familiar to me, and it's worth a post, at least. good luck brimstone |

Re: Odd Uro behavior
It sounds like he is nervous to me. Do you have places for him to hide in his cage? He may feel very insecure about having her food dish out in the open, or not having a hide close by. Put a hide just next to it, or even over it and see if that behavior stops.
The other thing I was wondering is if the dish is directly under a basking lamp, or in a place where it can get very hot. It's possible that the edges of the dish may burn him if that's the case. He may be circling the dish to find a cooler spot to get to the food. Edit: I just now realized this was originally posted last month. How'd I miss that? Anyway, has the behavior continued just that way, or has it stopped since then?
