We have 3 uro's. 2 have been housed together since before we bought them as a pair. We followed all the "if you want them to breed" instructions. I don't know how to tell if she is pregnant. I noticed today that she is huge, her belly is so fat. I searched all over online to see photos, etc to no avail. Has anyone actually bred these and had luck. The statistics for them actually having babies in capt is rare, so I didn't think there was much luck, but don't want to be unprepared for her if she did get pregnant. Thank you for any ideas you have to share with us.

What species is it that you have? It sounds like she has eggs. She will appear much wider than normal. If you take a flashlight and shine it on the belly you should be able to see some egg outlines depending on how far along she is.

They are Egyptian Uromastyx. The other female we have (housed alone) is a Nigerian.

Well Congrats. I don't know anyone that has bred Egyptians. I don't have experience with them myself. I would love to see some pics of them. I'll try a few sources to get some breeding info and see what I come up with. Do you feel any eggs in the belly?

From what I've found out their mating rituals differ from other Uro species but the incubation of the eggs is the same. The egg laying chamber though has to be much bigger and much deeper.

Thank you for your response, we did change her entire cage last night after placing them in shower, because she is hiding all the time and trying to burrow. She has bulging spots in her belly all over. Im going to try the flashlight idea tonight and place a call to our vet today. He's pretty fat too, so it could just be after their winter fasting they are eating all the time. We shall see....
