Iggy shedding
I have had my Uro since before christmas, I love him very much. He is also my first lizard to own ever. He started to shead 3 weeks ago, his appetite has ceased, i can get him to drink water, most of his body has shead except his tail which is hard to the touch, he doesnt mind me touching it at all, I have given him a warm bath today to see if it helps with his tail, he loved the bath came right to life lol, what I have noticed (which is why I gave him a bath) is that his tail is just not coming loose, it looks like it wants to but nothing, I am scared that something might be wrong, I am currently looking for a vet that I can bring him to. Does anyone have any advise of what else I can do, Should I rush him to a hospital?

I wouldn't worry yet. Uros hardly ever shed quickly and in one piece. I've had some that seemed to be constantly shedding. The tail is much harder than the rest of the body that may be why it seems tougher to the touch. I would give it a bit longer and see. How is your enclosure setup for hides containing humidity?

Iggy
I found a vet that saw iggy, unfortunatly I had to have her put down, she had an internal blockage from the walnut shell bedding (I was told to use) which I just found out is really bad for them, I also was told that the last bunch of crickets I got for her were sick, so now I have a complaint with the pet store for 2 different reasons, I am very sadden by this and very upset that I was given wrong information when I got her. I was also told that there is supposed to be zero humidity in the inclosure. i really miss her alot, she was wonderful, she knew her name. I am not sure what I should do about all of this incorect info I was given by the pet store. What bedding should be used? Are they supposed to have humitidy? I have been using a 38 gal aquarium for her, should I get something else if I plan on getting another?

Oh man am I really ticked after reading that. No humidity. Walnut shells substrate. For petes sake. Argggg. I think I have to calm down before writing a response.

Okay. I vented. Now. Go to the petstore and tell them or better yet show them pics or x-rays of what happened. Don't be too harsh as they will not listen if you do.
Check out this caresheet if you are looking at another Uro. Uromastyx Caresheet The issue with the crickets I believe is more common than people realize. It is often caused by rotted or mouldy food in the cricket containers. This is from a lack of cleaning the container out and replacing the food.

I'm sorry. In my flustered state I forgot to say that I'm sorry you had your Uro die. Too many pet stores lead owners astray by their poor and deadly information. You haven't had him long and should be able to get a refund based on your vets analysis. Especially because of the contaminated cricket issue.

Does soaking help or harm Uros? I was under the impression that just about any moisture at all is bad for them in case of tail rot, but would a one time soaking do that, or does that have to be over a prolonged period of time.
That was just a random question after reading the post. I'm sorry your pet died. It's hard to lose them. Next time you may want to really research the animal beforehand. Most of the time the workers at pet stores have little or no idea about the care for reptiles. They so often cause these types of deaths with misinformation. It's really awful.

Soaking does not harm them as long as you dry the tail off well between the sections. It tends to hold in there. The danger in moisture comes when the Uro is not able to dry out. They do require a level of moisture in their burrows. But definitely not wet. Keep a little moisture in the burrows by adding some water into the substrate where the burrows are. It's trial and error until you figure out how much to add every few days.

Sorry to hear of your loss....unfortunately most pet stores give bad information. I use newspaper for all of my reptiles no matter how they live...humid dry or whatever. I hope this doesnt dissuade you from getting another pet.....
