Hey there, I may be coming into the conversation a little late, but...
My RES is a four year old we rescued who was born wild in southern KS. The owner who took her decided later he didn't want the hassle. ANYWAY she has and always has had crystal clear light blue eyes. Looking around for something similar...I have WinXP and the scroll bar's default color (sort of a med-light blue) is about the same color as her eyes.
The pupil is clear and Ziggy sees fine. I'm more inclined to think that eye color in turtles is like any other animal, it has to do with dominant genes. I've seen RES with yellow eyes, and similar turtles (though not RES) with green, red, brown...pick a color. I've never heard that they were supposed to have a particular color. (Unlike some box turtles and tort's that can be sexed by eye color.)
Anybody else heard anything deffinate about this?
