Actually some animals will grow depending on the size of the enclosure they are given... For example gold fish...

Thats a myth. It isn't the size of the enclosure that controls the growth but the water conditions within which they are kept.

Sorry, but its not. Its all about the water quality. If you keep on top of the water quality they grow just fine. Its the concentration of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates, in the water that stunts them or makes them ill.Thats true goldfish will grow to the size of the bowl they are kept in.
And most of the "It will only row to the size of the enclosure" stories are usually the result of someone trying to sell something to someone who is not equipped to handle it as an adult.
Back in my fish keeping days (I kept large fish) we had heard these stories and decided to test it. We used a ten gallon tank and raised a pacu, a very large vegetarian fish from South America, from the size of a quarter to a bit under a foot long! Like goldfish these guys are incredibly messy. As it got older we monitored the water quality and it got to the point where we were making large (aged) water changes ever day or two just to stay on top of it.
The fish eventually went on to live at our zoo in a river biotype setup.

The things people try to get away with... I hope he can screen people so they atleast will go to a home where they will be properly cared for.
Merlin I had 2 pacu's ended up giving them away when they kept smashing heaters. Plus my 50 gal was way too small for them

Our Pacu, "Pete" was pretty calm. You could hand feed him.
But I hear you about the heaters. I got quite creative to secure mine in a 135 gallon tank with a lungfish, a 2 ft tiger shovelnose and two 15 inch oscars!
At feeding time in there it got a bit rowdy!
