Eastern Painted turtle

Does anyone have any suggestions about a eastern painted turtle?
What do you keep it in? The shell is 6" long head to tail.
What does it need as far as food and lighting? If any.

Need some help here! I rescued it from the middle of a four lane road in Atlanta, Georgia.

I have him in a BIT plastic tub for now!

i think you should put it back, in my opinion a turtle that is used to living freely wouldnt like being kept as a pet

He could be loaded with parasites too. I have an eastern painted turtle I purchased at a pet store. I have him in a 50 gallon tank for now and I feed him earthworms, wax worms, reptomin sticks that you can find in a petstore. For lighting I have a 75 watt heat bulb for daytime, a 75 watt heat bulb for nighttime (red) and a UVB light. I filled up my tank with a minimum of 4" of water. (the size of its shell)

I agree with Ryan, it should be released. But if you do decide to keep it make sure it has a raised dry area in the tank so it can bask. A vet check should be in order as well, you never know what it could be carrying.
