Hatching As We Speak ! ! !
Several weeks ago, I reported to you all about saving some Painter eggs,(7).
I have 6 baby turtles breaking thru the shells now!!! By all rights, they shouldn't have survived. The eggs were gathered in a 12 year olds hat, shown to all his friends, and finally brought to my campsite.
I put them in a 16 oz cup, covered them with sand, and started researching as to how to best take care of them. Three days later, after my research and joining the HC Network, I 'planted' them, and hoped for the best!
During this writing one has completely disengaged from the shell, and is wandering around, stepping all over his/her siblings. I fear that they probably wouldn't survive if I put them back into the pond now. Painters in this area usually winter over in the nest. I'd love to send some photos, but I haven't got the right stuff to send out via the computer. Standing by, anxiously awaiting your replies and/or comments!
