Can a Turtle Bruise Its Beak?
Is it possible for a semi aquatic turtle to bruise its beak? My yellow bellied slider has a reddish spot on the bottom part of its beak. I saw the same thing on one of my painted turtles, but I thought that it was just one of its markings.
Is it a type of infection or fungus? It doesn't seem to bother them when I touch the spots.
I'm going to keep an eye on it, but is there anything that I should do?

Re: Can a Turtle Bruise Its Beak?
Upon further inspection, all three of my turtles have this spot on their beaks.

Re: Can a Turtle Bruise Its Beak?
Tessa, it is just likely that no one has an answer for you. Its very difficult to try to diagnose something based on a description. Thats why vets don't diagnose over the phone unless it's some common affliction that is readily distinguishable.
Maybe if you posted a picture of the spot?
If you think that its something out of the ordinary that hasn't been there before, a vet visit is your best course.

Yup, I know there aren't many turtle keepers here, and diagnosing something we are unsure of is very ill-advised. Start with a photo, but really a vet visit is your best bet.

Re: Can a Turtle Bruise Its Beak?
I wasn't meaning to be mean or anything, if that's how you took it. I thought that the site had messed up, and my post wasn't seen. I'm sorry.

Re: Can a Turtle Bruise Its Beak?
I don't think anyone thought that. No worries Tessa
But like the others I can't help either, I have no idea what that's about. When in doubt go to the vet.
Good luck

No worries! I didn't percieve it that way at all.
You are worried and maybe a tad frustrated by the lack of response is all.

Re: Can a Turtle Bruise Its Beak?
All I can say is either watch it and see what happens, or take them to a vet. A red spot on the beak doesn't sound like anything I'm familiar with, nor could I find anything online. If you ever do manage to get pics though, I would love to see them so I can get a better idea of what it is exactly.
