Small Red Eared Slider EMERGENCY! Please Help!

I have a tiny little red eared slider and have been staying with my parents the last little while. My mom put the turtle tank on the floor and her dog (a NEWF) pick it up and started chewing on it. Everything looks okay EXCEPT that in between her leg and her shell her intestines are like, falling out. They arent coming out any further but they are still out. She looks okay and all but they are just hanging there. I cant see where exactly they are coming out, only that her leg is covering up the wound. I don't have any money for a vet and my mom told me to just take a tooth pick and shove them back in. WHAT DO I DO?!!? Im freaking out and I feel so guilty.... Please help!!!

Don't know that there is much you can do. I would think that would be like cutting a person or even dogs stomach open and not doing anything, don't know if survival is possible. You should try to call a vet and just ask. Make them think you plan on coming in and they should at least tell you if there is anything they can do or you can do.

That turtle needs a vet ASAP, even if its just to put it down and out of pain. Your mom needs to find some compassion for your turtle. A toothpick!! I'm going to cut open her stomach and poke her intestines with a hockey stick. Maybe you could use that comparison to her.

Maybe your mom should be paying for the vet since she is the one who put the tank on the floor...

I agree with the above poster. It is just cruel and your mom is the one responsible for what happened. She should own up to it and be willing to take care of the financial costs. Kinda like she might expect of you if your puppy knocked over and destroyed her favorite piece of china.

I really appreciate all your replies, kind of given me the boost that it takes to actually fight my mom over this. I do just want to let you all know that my mom said that she would take the turtle in yesterday morning and she never did. The turtle died early this morning. : (

Well, at least the turtle is out of pain. Hopefully your mom will be a little more careful when it comes to animals. Just because it isn't a dog or a cat, doesn't mean it doesn't deserve the same treatment.

Re: Small Red Eared Slider EMERGENCY! Please Help!

I would HIGHLY reccomend that your mom take her dog to the vet. Young red ear sliders put people and animals at a very high risk to get salmonella. It is very possible that her dog has gotten salmonella and if she doesn't get him checked and treated if the dog does indeed have it, it will kill her dog. She needs to get him checked ASAP!
