Turtle Squirting Water??

For once, I have a question about my turtles lol.
Have any of you seen or heard about turtles squirting water at each other?
It started like a month or so ago, but I never saw it happen. I kept hearing this noise that sounded like a water gun squirting, but I thought it was a bird outside. Then my boyfriend and I were sitting around this morning and we both heard it. He said that he heard it last night, and saw something squirt water in the turtle tank. It can only be one of the turtles, as that is all we have in there.
There are two painted and one Yellow bellied slider.
Could this be a sign of illness? Is it a defensive move? I will do more resarch, but if anyone can help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!!

Re: Turtle Squirting Water??

It's not a sign of illness. It's more like turtle play, my painted turtles do it often. I have even seen my terrapin do it on occasion, the spotteds never. I guess it is more prevalent in certain species.

Re: Turtle Squirting Water??

I actually saw it do it today. It stretched its neck all the way out and sounded and looked like it was screaming. It squirting some water out with some bubbles. It looked like he was struggling, so I picked him up to look at him and try to listen to his breathing. He was acting normal, and tried to get away from me. So far, I haven't noticed any bubbles on its nose or anything like that.
