Help Identifying Turtle.

Hi guys! We'll I've had this little guy/girl for about 4 months. He was rescued from a pool. We didn't expect it to survive, what with the cholorine and all.
I'm pretty sure hes a juvenile, and I have done some research to find out what kind of turtle he/she is. I think it is a musk turtle, but I am in no way positive about that.
Here are some pics, they are blurry, but its hard to get his details to show in pics because he is tiny.
If anyone can help me to identify him, and give me any helpful hints on how to keep this little thing happy, i would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Re: Help Identifying Turtle.

yeah I didnt think anyone could
he is really dark, almost black, and has yellowish markings around the ege of his shell, and on the bottom and on his head.
don't know if that helps, ill try to take more pics and see if I can focus on him more.

Re: Help Identifying Turtle.

I'm almost 100% certain that's a striped mud turtle, Kinosternon bauri. From the shape of his shell and the profile of his nose I'd say mud turtle, and based on his belly coloration and what look like three light ridges on his carapace (back shell), that says striped mud turtle.

The only other possibilities, considering his shape, would be the eastern mud turtle, Kinosternon subrubrum, or possibly one of the two musk turtle species in your state. However, the belly color and ridges still make me think it's a striped mud. Still, if you can get some better pictures that will help confirm it. If you shine a light on him that will help.

Re: Help Identifying Turtle.

Also, since you know what your turtle looks like better than I do, you can search Google for pictures of striped mud turtles and compare them to yours to see if it looks like a match.
