11 year old
hey, i have a red eared slider that I think is 11 years old. my grandmother had a friend she bowled with who gave it to me. they had him for 7 years she told me and I have had him for 4. I was wondering, he's in a tall 20 gallon and his shell is 6 inches. should he be bigger at this age? i really hope I haven't been stunting his growth. he has a basking area and a uvb light and his water temps usually stay between 75 and 79. his tank is on the floor and since he likes to roam I had to build him a little ramp out of boxes and a blanket to keep him from cracking his shell on the tile floor. he'll run around the house a little then come back to my room and "ask" to be put back in his tank (in other words he lays on my foot and stares at me). When I got him he was in a 10 gallon with gravel in the bottom and just a small bowl of water that he stayed in all the time.I dont know if they had uv lights or not. I kept him like that for about a month before I looked up his care and switched his tank, he's been in the 20 ever since.

Re: 11 year old
you can't go wrong with bigger. I bet you will see him much more active in a 50 gallon.

Re: 11 year old
Yeah, bigger is better usually. I have one painted turtle right now and he is probably under two years old. I really don't know age because he was given to me. I would say his shell is around three inches. I really can't tell you since he is at a middle school right now on display. I wouldn't know tank size since he stays in a outdoor pond that holds about 150 gallons.

Re: 11 year old
I would love to put dana in an outdoor pond, but my parents would kill me if I dug up the yard. I'm gonna try to get big plastic tub to tide him over until I save enough money to get him a big tank

Re: 11 year old
A 20 gallon is way too small for an adult RES. I use 20's to hold hatchlings. There in 55's by the time there 4 months old. A 75 would be best,,,well an outdoor pond would but I understand your dilema.
