This guy came into rescue today, I have no idea what it is and have been googling for hours. My first thought was some kind of mud or musk. I need to know how to set up an enclosure and what to feed him There is no hinge on the plastron. I have placed him in a large dry tank with a shallow tray of water, he's hanging out in the water, there is slight webbing in his hind feet.

Dont the african sidenecks look like that? I remember seeing one at a show and I remember the "smiling" face they had that caught my attention, and I they are aquatic like the sliders. I will have to google and look.

also try googling african sideneck and many things come up that look very similar.

Thanks Nicole but he has sort of cream coloured markings on the sides of his neck and head that stop at the eye.

interesting, the african sideneck is the only turtle I know oif that looks like it smiles, but when you find out what it is let me know as you have my curiousity now

I'm really hoping someone here can ID him, I'm lost.

An elderly lady had this guy and a RES, they had run of the house with only a pan of water to hang out in. The slider was around for at least 10 years, not sure about Mystery. The lady died and the estranged family are now cleaning out the house, they brought me the slider last month and told me they thought there might be another one but they weren't sure. They found this guy 2 days ago under some boxes. He's very much alive and active, doesn't seem to have suffered too much by not having access to water or food for at least a month.

I bet Matt would know....I personally have no idea. I can hardly tell a RES from a snapping turtle.
