Re: I need ID help please
I am glad you figured out what she is! Nice looking turtle. I just looked up that species on google. I have never seen this kind of turtle in the pet stores. Good luck with her.

Re: I need ID help please
I had the poor girl confused I'm sure. Because I didn't know what she was I offered her a dish of greens and fruits as well as greens and pellets in her shallow water pan. She spent the first 3 days in her water and finally came out Wednesday evening. She had to have been without food, water, heat for over a month. She's really shy but looking a bit better now.

Re: I need ID help please
Aww man, I missed this one Been waaay busier than I prefer to be lately. But yeah, definitely a Reeve's turtle. The three-keeled carapace is characteristic of this species. They were once fairly common in the pet trade, but I've never seen on in person myself. They're almost always wild-caught, imported from oriental countries.

very common in the pet trade? very interesting! it probably was when the older lady bought it. I have never seen one either, but it makes you wonder how long did she have it? Maybe its an antique, lol

Re: I need ID help please
Yeah, at one point in time they were the most commonly imported turtle, but I'm thinking this was all a long time ago, because I've never seen one and most people have never heard of them.

Re: I need ID help please
The lady had her for at least 10 years. She's turning into a sweet turtle, gets really excited when we stop at her tank. She's still a bit shy but starting to come out of her shell now (pun intended, lol). I'll try to get more pics of her with her head out more.

Re: I need ID help please
They actually breed pretty easily, so foreign import isn't really necessary any more. I have a captive-bred girl named Calypso at the moment - fantastic turtles, stay relatively small (~5" for males, 7-8" for females), and once they're adults begin to act rather more like dogs than like reptiles. I was going to jump in and say reeve's, but I was beaten to it long since (I just saw this thread.)
Oh, and they are asian, so they aren't as common in the US as native species.
