He's actually 4 times the size as last year. When he was a hatchling he was the size of a dime.

I second that! Definitely one of my favorite aquatic turtles. I'd love to have one someday. That and a fly river pig-nosed turtle  ...and a mata-mata... and...

Actually, terrapin is traditionally used to describe aquatic turtles. The three basic types of turtles being "turtles", "terrapins", and "tortoises". We generally refer to "turtles" as sea turtles and "terrapins" as turtles though.

Yes It is apparently a locality thing. Growing up around here, box turtles were always called terrapins.
If a chelonian was aquatic it was a turtle.
