Re: Found turtle

Personally, I would release him in a safe place near where he was found, if possible. Here's a site that explains a bit about how keeping wild-caught box turtles as pets can contribute significantly to population diminishment issues: Box Turtles At The McKeever Center

If you think his eye may impact his ability to survive and breed, I would contact a wildlife rehabilitator in your area. In my state, it is illegal to keep wild-caught Eastern Box Turtles unless you are a licensed rehabber.

Re: Found turtle

I would release him into an area where he will be safe from predators. He is native to the area so any place with a bog will be good for him.

As Ken's pointed out, box turtles need quite a bit of room. I'm not trying to talk you out of keeping him, but you'll definitely need to do some building if you want to keep him healthy and happy. If you intend to bring him indoors during the winter you'll also need a mercury vapor light and a rather large enclosure.

It must be the picture. The other eye is a nice clear dark brown.
