Re: Frog question for Sean
SOLVED. First, to put it specifically--these are not "tree frogs." What can I mean?
These are "Polypedates leucomystax" the Asian Golden treefrog or Common Gliding Frog. They are not really treefrogs, as they are not Hylidae; rather they are one of the commonest frogs in the Rhacophoridae, the "Flying frogs." They are more closely related to ranids than they are to hylids.
Many species can be difficult (especially wild-caught specimens), but these are not. Males are much smaller, and usually have a conspicuous "X" on the back. If well fed, they are good community animals, and they often tame down to an extent (although usually not as placid as White's). However, unlike many more familar Hylids, they can't stand cold. Do NOT cool these in the winter--vary the photoperiod.
Hope this helps.
