I like my african clawed frogs as an easy to keep amphibian. they'll eat, pellets, live,or frozen food. 1 can live in a ten gallon. I use a small whisper filter and make sure theres no way for them to get out.

Dart frogs are a lot easier to care for than any frog I know of. No walter filtration needed as they do not require standing water. Just mist daily with purified (NOT distilled) water. Only maintenance is trimming plants once a month, siphon out excess water from drainage and wipe down the front glass, lol. Setup is pretty easy: 1 inch of expanded clay pellets (found in hydroponics stores or sold online), 1 inch of organic topsoil, live moss and plants (check blackjungle .com). Let grow for one month and add frogs. You need a full spectrum light... this is more for the plants than the frogs. They do well at room temps, no special heat or light needed. The hood should have a few very small ventilation holes, but no spaces large enough to allow flies to escape. You can purchase fly cultures and instructions from jtresser.com.

If you want something really easy, go with a clawed frog or an argentine horned frog. However, neither species are very energetic, especially the horned frog. Green tree frogs and white's tree frrogs are pretty good beginners too, as are tiger salamanders, but they're hard to come by. The horned frogs are very easy to keep, but also very boring. They pretty much just sit and eat, and that's all.

i have to say that by far, grey tree frogs (hyla versicolor) are the easest frogs to keep IMO. But, my firts herp was a white's tree frog and he is still keeping me busy to this day. He's easy to take care of, and very personable.

I also keep dart frogs, but I wouldnt recommend them for beginner herpers, they are fine as a second amphib (they were my second amphib species). But it's best to start with something a little less expensive to gain experience before you go and blow your money on dart frogs. They get very expensive initially, but after the initial purchases, you dont really need to buy anything else except fruit flies when your cultures die, and replacement lights.
