Rescued!!!

Hi all,

i jus bought a cutie from a horrible fish shop!!!
I was doing my normal rounds for feeders at several fish shops in my neighbourhood where a small container caught my eye.

To my surprise, i saw them housing a White Tree Frog with terrapins in a cage smaller than a footer tank!!!

condition was dirty and the poor cutie looked so stressed!!!
i managed to arrange a friend of mine(experienced with herps) to adopt the frog and I bought it immediately.

bath him in mist of bottled water with anti bacteria solution when I got him home and now residing in a temporary setup till my friend collects the poor dude!!!

haven hear him croak yet so might be a female

do I need to take any further steps for his tear skin at the nose??
pls advise

thanks

Well done for rescuing the poor thing - I wish you every success with him/her.

Re: antibiotics - be careful what you use, as some solutions can be harmful to frogs,. tamodine, or betadine, can be used, but this will only make sure that infection doesn't set in. What solution did you use? Keep him in a simple set up and keep a close eye on him to see how he goes. Is he eating? Make sure he is pooping normally. A vet visit might be in order for the snout rub, however with treatment and antibiotic soakings it may get better. Frogs can get snout rub mainly if they are kept in the wrong conditions or if the enclosure they are in is too small, and they are trying to escape.

Check out the care sheet on here for general care info. I wish you all the luck with him and hope you can get him back to full health. Perhaps you should report the shop where he was to save mistreatment like this in the future?

By the way, he's a very pretty little thing! Looks a little underweight but a few good feeds should sort that. Depending on his age, males are smaller than females and have a few distinctive tell tale signs of gender, also discussed in the care sheet.

hey thanks I have read through the Caresheet already, thanks for the pointers.
i would love to see the cutie back to full health. As for the solution, its a anti bacteria solution from Ocean-Free for treating fin rot for tropical fishes. i lost the instruction manual with the list of chemicals already, but I have used it to treat an infected T. shanjing back to health also. furthermore I using a small dosage as I scare it may not be suitable.

haha cant report the shop as I dont live in the vicinity of europe and the keeping of herps isnt really encouraged. haha the only herps we get here are either by import or occasion one or two salamanders or frogs. (and they mostly are not in the best of conditions) but wat to do, we're all herps lovers!!!

and thanks I will not hesitate to pump him with crickets!!!

Well, good on you. We are right behind you! Where abouts are you from? They are trying to ban the keeping of reptiles here in the UK but we will fight against that,. I really don't think they will implement a ban as it would drive herpetology underground and create many problems.

The solution you are using may be fine - have a look at the thread about "whites' leg" in the tree frog section.. Matt and I discussed various solutions that are used with fish that may be suitable for frogs.

Good luck, and please provide us with regular updates on him.

i'm from the east, send u a pm on that already.
yeah I read those posts, glad to have people like you to depend on for information.
but have to comment that the caresheets are a bit wordy and without sub topics to classify, i.e. food, housing etc, maybe in the future, those can be edited.
thanks for all the help

cheers
