Gray Tree Frog Tadpole and Baby Frog Help Needed

I am new here, found this site while trying to find info on Gray tree frogs. We had about 500 tadpoles in our pool this spring. We moved them all out into a smaller plastic pool and kept about 10 in an aquarium inside. Turns out they are Gray tree frogs. I have a few questions though.

The ones outside the water is really green, should I be trying to change it? It is all rain water, no tap water, and I really don't know how to clean it. I am worried that it will kill the tadpoles. A few have little front legs but most do not. We are feeding them frozen kale leaves plus they are eating leaves and berries that have fallen. Is that enough? Why are they so far behind the ones inside.

The ones inside all have back legs, 4 have front legs and have lost their tails. They are in another aquarium now. We planned on releasing them but they seem so small and defenseless so should I wait? If so what should I feed them? If they can be released where should I put them, near a pond?

I really appreciate any help. I really did not want these guys to die in the chlorine water but we are not very well equipped to deal with so many of them.

I would leave the water in teh kiddie pool alone. You can add water to it if you want, just be sure to let it sit out in buckets for 24 hours first, unless you are on well water.

No idea why the ones inside are growing faster. Maybe its warmer? cooler?

I would release the froglets. They manage just fine in nature after all and they are froglets there too. They won't need a pond to be near, they are tree frogs once they are out of the water. If you want to keep them, you have to start out by feeding them fruit flies. You can buy cultures, but it gets really expensive.

Thank you for your advice. I did realease the 5 that have fully changed and I cannot stop worrying about them! I hope I put them in a safe spot.

If you want to help the frogs in the kiddie pool, stick something in the water, so they can climb out when they do get legs. A large stick or rock along the edge would be sufficient. I would also move the pool so its not in full sun, if you haven't done that already.

In my/our experience, the frogs, if Hyla Versicolor (Gray Tree Frogs) have sticky toes and they will climb up the side and out of the kiddie pool. If you really are worried, maybe put smething natural, like a branch from the water to the side of the pool, propped on an angle. We had Gray Tree Frogs climb the liner of our 24' round, above ground swimming pool (see: Dumb Luck Pond) with no problem. CyndiB

I had some spare plastic deer netting, and placed that in a water feature this year, and the froglets were all over it. The tads with the developed back legs loved sitting on it under water. It was like a tad lounge!
