Question 2 Gallon Tank Too Small?

I was planning on making a small vivarium (my first..) out of a 2 gallon fish tank I have, just to test out a few things.. mostly it'll be to see what it's like, get a little practice, and be sure I'm able to keep live plants alive and maintain temp and humidity!

But I was wondering if it'd be big enough for one frog (or newt, salamander, lizard..) What I'd probably get is a green tree frog, but if this is way too small for that I won't.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! This is just a practice but if no animal should be in so small a space, I'll just hold off on that until I make a 'real' one.

That is too small. By the time you add plants, soil, water, etc the space remaining is next to nothing.

    Thanks for the quick response!

What's the smallest size tank for one of this sort of animal? I'm starting to think the only thing that can live in this tank is a betta fish. D:

if you want to try a vivarium 10 gallons is a good start. you can have a pair of dart frogs in that.

Actually, "betta" fish is correct. Beta is the greek letter.

Besides space, frogs need a larger enclosure than a 2 gallon to get the proper heat gradient in there. I'm with Liz, at least a 10 gallon for almost any type of reptile or amphibian.

    Alright, thanks guys!

I'll just set it up with plants and water etc, and get the animals after I've set up the big tank. (Not sure the gallons but it's at least.. 12x12x36, idek, more than big enough for a frog or two. :3 )

If you want to try something interesting you could set the 2 gal up with carnivorous plants such as the venus flytrap!

That sounds kind of cool, I'll look at some of those.

Thanks for the suggestion! Would it be dangerous if I put it with animals later? If not I could just keep it separate, just wonderin.

Putting the plant in with animals would be more hazardous to the plant than the animals.
